Assignment #9: Jesse Anderson

For this assignment, I wanted to try out the greyscale feature that lightroom offers. It was a cloudy day when I started shooting, and I felt like the effect perfectly complemented the overall mood of the collection.

Rachel Grassick, a senior at the University of Maryland majoring in family science, packs up her stand from a full day at the farmer's market, which occurs every Wednesday near Tawes Hall on campus. She enjoys meeting with students throughout the day and sharing her passion for sustainable eating. 


Chris Bollinger, a sophomore at the University of Maryland majoring in neurobiology, smiles as he leaves his friends for class. Bollinger always looks forward to organic chemistry, as he sees his future as a lab researcher manifesting when taking classes within the discipline. 

Rachel Grassick, a senior at the University of Maryland majoring in family science, finishes packing up her van with the items she sells at the farmer's market in anticipation for another fruitful market next Wednesday. 


Two pumpkins sit tightly within a cardboard box on the outskirts of the farmer's market, symbolizing one of the vegetables typically associated with the changing seasons. 


Rachel Grassick, a senior at the University of Maryland majoring in family science, carries heavy tables with ease into her car and quickly hurries to class shortly thereafter. Selling goods at the farmer's market gives Grassick a reprieve from her busy senior schedule, and helps her reduce stress. 


Chris Bollinger, a sophomore at the University of Maryland majoring in neurobiology, stares directly ahead, focused on excelling in his forthcoming neurobiology exam. 


Boxes line the perimeter of the street adjacent to Tawes hall, filled with goods from the day's farmer's market. Who knows what lies inside! 


Large tents and tables were hauled out into the streets by vendors packing up from an eventful day at the farmer's market.

UMD Loop: Gearing up for Transportation's Future Started by SpaceX in 2015, the Hyperloop Pod Competition challenges teams of students around the world to build a vehicle capable of traveling high speeds in a vacuum-sealed tube underground. At the time when I started photographing UMD's pod team, SpaceX hadn't yet issued any hints to what this year's challenge would look like. But rather than sit in limbo, UMD's team has decided to push forward in building up its membership and pitching designs. Left without any specific guidelines, though, the team must be prepared for anything. Nil Patel, a junior aerospace major, stands outside of Institute for Physical Science Technology — the building where UMD Loop meets, and where active team members spend at least 90% of their time. Hannah Butera Assignment #8: UMD In The Fall The gleaming fall season at The University of Maryland doesn't last long.  Students take full advantage by leaving the shortcuts behind and exploring the beauty of the campus. The (afternoon) light by (name of buildings) shows how vibrant the foliage becomes in the Maryland fall season. Students relax in the crisp fall weather at Tawes Plaza Garden.  ENO hammocks are a major trend amongst UMD students, especially this time of year. The mobile hammocks pictured above are easily attached to trees, providing students a relaxation break on-the-go.  Maryland's campus is not complete without its squirrels.
