Assignment #1 - Angela Roberts

Amira Elzare, a junior physiology and neurobiology major, waits for her sister to pick her up after class.

Elzare had just came out of physics -- a class that's "really killing" her vibe this semester.

Anjali Saini, a sophomore computer science major, reviews her notes from Statistics 410. Her classes are pretty rough this semester, so she's trying to stay ahead of the game.

Rebecca Palmer, a sophomore studying special education, delves into a book she was assigned to read in an honors seminar she's taking this semester.

Even though she had only purchased the book a few days ago, she was already more than halfway through.

Insha Sheikh, a sophomore, sits on a brick wall along McKeldin Mall after class.

Sheikh is studying architecture at UMD. Why? "It's my passion," she said.

Marisa Finn, a senior sociology major, trains Bergie, a nine-month-old aspiring service dog.

She makes kissing noises and tells Bergie to "Get busy!" on the pavement -- an order that should signal Bergie to relieve herself, but it's much too hot to follow commands today. Instead, the pup dawdles in the shade.

One day, Bergie will assist someone living in an urban setting, so she has to get used to relieving herself on the pavement, Finn explains.
