Assignment #4 - Angela Roberts

This is Nil. I've been dating him for around a year and a half now. He's just about my favorite person in the world, but unfortunately, some weeks I don't get to be around him as much as I'd like. Our schedules (and where on campus we spend most of our days) are suuuper different: I'm a newbie reporter, and he's an up-and-coming rocket scientist. This was one of those crazy, crazy weeks. I had to write back-to-back articles (and stay at the newsroom until 3 a.m. last night to edit a story from a contentious city council meeting), and Nil has been hustling to get used to all the duties that come along with his new role as vice president of an aerospace club.  So, right here, these moments when I was photographing him? This was the first time I'd seen him since over the weekend. These weeks kind of stink. Don't get me wrong, I really love the hum of busy-ness — and there's almost nothing I love more than journalism. But I also very m...

Living Artists and Co., a Maryland-based art collective, recently put up these installations in College Park.  They sit across from City Hall, adorning the windows of what used to be a cellphone repair store. Camilla Tapia, a former University of Maryland students, started the collective after graduation. The art won't be there forever — the building will be part of the new College Park City Hall. Here's the old one. In March 2018, the city council voted to purchase the neighboring properties, for over a million dollars. For now, though, the art stands as an example of the vibrancy of the students that call the town home.

Joe Calavetinos stares off into the distance at golden hour in Riverdale Park on a September evening, as he takes his daily walk.  Calavetinos walks his dog, Duke at his local park in Riverdale Park on a late September evening. Duke is staring at the other dogs running around in the designated dog park area.  Calavetinos watches Duke stare at other dogs running around in the dog park. Duke is not allowed in the dog parks in PG County because he is part pit bull and they have been banned.   Calavetinos and an excited Duke walk around at the park, enjoying the almost fall-like weather during a beautiful September evening.   Calavetinos and Duke pause for a brief moment during their daily walk. Duke stares at the other dogs, while Calavetinos is looking around at all of the people at the neighborhood park in Riverdale. Calavetinos enjoys the last moments of sun before the sunsets on a beautiful September evening in his neighborhood...

Assignment #4 - Jonathan Tercasio

Hagerstown Hall is the home of freshman Terps who are in the University Honors Program. Since it is located next to Capital One Field, residents say they can hear football games from their rooms.  As one of the oldest dorm buildings on campus, Hagerstown Hall does have or allow air conditioning units. Students say they often keep several fans in their rooms during the warmer months.  Hagerstown Hall was built in the 1980's, and no major renovations have been done since. The building's exterior has visibly experienced some aging.   Hagerstown Hall's rectangular shape is common among most dorm building on North Campus, where it is located. With eight floors, Hagerstown houses over 1,000 students.  The sixth floor of Hagerstown suffers from high temperatures during the warmer months. Residents say the building's narrow hallways often appear to be lackluster.  Hagerstown Hall's exterior is lit by lanterns during the nighttime hours. W...

For this assignment, I documented my travels in D.C. with my friends for the H Street Festival. First, we went to Dukem Restaurant, an authentic Ethiopian restaurant, in D.C. I enjoyed a cappuccino (captured in the first picture), my friend Malaika Mosele sipped on a warm spiced tea, and everyone dove into the platter of Ethiopian staples. We then went to the H Street festival, and I took some photos of well-lit buildings along the way. A delicious cappuccino sprinkled with Ethiopian spices at  Dukem Restaurant in Washington, D.C.
